To Be Continued

reading-togetherSometimes we think storytime is just for little kids, but everyone loves a good story.   I know I do!   This summer the Olathe Public Library is offering a special time for kids, going into 1st - 5th grade, to come and listen to a good story.   It's called "To Be Continued."   Each week several chapters of a book will be read aloud, and then the book will be continued the following week(s) until it is finished.   A snack will be provided.   Program will last about an hour. To Be Continued is offered at both Olathe libraries during the following times:

Mondays, June 7-July 26 - 4:00 p.m @ Indian Creek
Wednesdays, June 9-July 28 - 4:00 p.m. @ Main Library

No registration is required.   Come enjoy a good story at the library this summer.

Summer Kick-Off 2010

It was a beautiful sunny morning on Saturday at Frontier Park and a great day for our Summer Reading Kick-Off.  Around 800 people attended the festivities.  Kids, teens and adults got reading folders and learned about our summer programming.  Plus there were frog relays, chess games, temporary tattoos, snacks, a duck pond, and lots of fun.  It was a great beginning to our "Make a Splash--READ!" summer reading program!  Check out the pictures below. And if you couldn't make it to the Kick-Off, it's not too late to get a summer reading folder.  Just stop by either Olathe library anytime and pick up a folder to keep track of your summer reading.  There is still a lot of fun to be had this summer at the library! chess2 frogrelay1 duckpond treats tattoo happylibrarians readingfolders readsidewalk

Make a Splash--READ!

Are you ready for a summer of fun at the Olathe Public Library?  This summer's reading program theme is Make a Splash--READ!   We'll offer programs about things to do in the water, things to do with water, things that live in the water, and more.   There will be puppet shows, fun games, crafts programs, book discussions, storytimes, movies, weblogo2010Spanish classes, science experiments, and more fun than you shake a wet fish at.   Old favorites like Find Fido Friday, Read to a Dog, and our summer drawing contest will be back again.   And of course, we will be distributing summer reading folders all summer long for kids to keep track of all books they read this summer.   Return your folder in August before school starts and receive a free paperback book to keep!  All the fun will begin with our Summer Kick-Off at Frontier Park on Saturday, May 22 from 10 a.m. to 12 noon, and our activities wrap up with our Summer Finale featuring ventriloquist/illusionist Kevin Horner on Saturday, August 21 at 10:30 a.m. at Scarborough Elementary.  For more information about all of the events happening in the Children's Department this summer, click here.  You may also pick up a flyer listing all of our summer programs at either Olathe library.
