End of Summer Reading Celebration

Come celebrate all the reading you did this summer at our End of Summer Reading Celebration on Saturday, August 18, at the Great Mall of the Great Plains.  The celebration will include a free concert by the music group Funk Syndicate.  Funk Syndicate's music spans the decades from the 60's to the 90's, including funk, R&B, soul, disco, jazz, swing, and classic rock.  This is music the whole family will enjoy.

Calling All Artists!

kids_girl.gifDo you like to draw? Are you going into 1st - 6th grade next fall? Then you should enter our Summer Drawing Contest! Drawings must be done on
8 1/2" x 11" white paper. The artwork must be done by hand (no help from parents or siblings!). Your drawing should include the theme of libraries, books or reading. One drawing per artist please.

Turn in your drawing at either Olathe library. The deadline is July 15 so you still have a couple of weeks left to complete your masterpiece! Entry forms can be picked at both libraries or you can print one off here. You can also click here to see some of the artwork already submitted.

Drawings will be judged by grade, and winners will be announced on July 23. The winning entries will be displayed at the Main Library August 1-15 and at the Indian Creek Branch August 17-31.

If you have any questions, visit the library or call us at (913) 971-6874.  Happy drawing!

The Mystery of Magic

devin.jpgA record-breaking crowd attended our Mystery of Magic program with Devin Henderson on June 14.  Devin kept over 500 children and parents mesmerized with his magic and laughing at his jokes.

audience.jpgThis was our first program at the American Legion Hall in order to accommodate larger audiences, and boy, did we need the space!  We appreciate everyone's patience in dealing with the larger-than-expected crowd.

Sesquicentennial Musical

Celebrate a little Olathe history with the Seniors Serving Schools' Sesquicentennial Event.  Members of the group will perform a musical adaptation of Olathe's historical events.  Here's a chance to learn what there is to sing about in Olathe's past.  Fun for all kids and adults.  This program will be held on Saturday, June 9 at 2:00 p.m. at the Indian Creek Branch Library.  Program will last about 45 minutes.  Event is free and registration not required.
