Friends of the Library
The Friends of the Library work to gain community support for the library activities through volunteer activities, programs, dinners, and book sales.
THIS EVENT IS SOLD OUT! 2013 Novel Tea - April 20 from 2 - 4 pm - Indian Creek Community Church - 12480 S. Black Bob Road, Olathe
Small businesses and non-profits will decorate tables to represent novels and at tea presented by the Friends of the Olathe Public Library. Enjoy a light luncheon, tea and speaker Regina Sirois, author of "Putting Pen to Paper - The Novel Writing Journey". Tickets are $10 each and may be purchased at either library location or call Rita J. Patterson at 913-971-6879.
First Curtis Gilmore Memorial Scholarship Awarded
On June 25, 2012, the Friends presented a $500 scholarship to Angela Sullivan, an Olathe Public Library volunteer. The scholarship was established in the memory of Curtis Gilmore, an OPL youth volunteer, who passed in 2007.
Friends president, Colette McGee, gave Angela a check along with a certificate. Angela has been a library volunteer since June 2009 and has worked 228 hours. She is a homeschooler and will be attending Harding University in Searcy, Arkansas.
The 2013 scholarship winner will be announced this spring.
Friends Book Sales
The Friends of the Library welcome book sale donations throughout the year. There are drop off receptacles inside both libraries. If you would like to receive a letter confirming your donations for tax purposes, pick up a form at the check-out desk at either library.
Donation Guidelines
Materials we do accept:
Books, DVDs, Books on CD and music CDs
Children and teen books
Textbooks containing technical information - only those published the last three years
Only magazines of historic interest - Time, Look, etc.
Materials we do not accept:
Cassettes or videos
Computer materials
Materials that are musty or damp
Encyclopedia sets
Reader's Digest Condensed Books
