Kids who attend one of the Olathe district elementary schools will know that F.R.E.D. stands for Families Read Every Day! During the school year F.R.E.D. families read together the book Mason Dixon: Pet Disasters by Claudia Mills, and hundreds of people came to the Olathe Public Libraries to meet the author Claudia Mills in person. It was a great event!
But F.R.E.D. isn't just during the school year. Summer is a perfect time to read together as a family. The library wants to encourage families to spend quality time reading together throughout the year. We have a list of recommended read aloud books at the library if you need some suggestions. Or how about listening to an audiobook together on your next road trip?
Another way we are promoting F.R.E.D. this summer is with free yard signs. Perhaps you've seen these orange signs in yards around the city that state: "An Olathe Public LIbrary F.R.E.D. Family Lives Here!" If you would like a sign to display in front of your house, just stop by either Olathe library and ask for a free yard sign (while supplies last). If you don't have space for a yard sign, we also have window clings available that can displayed on a car window or at home. We hope you will help us support the Olathe Public Library and promote families reading together.
