The summer of 2013 is off to a great start! Our Summer Reading Kick-Off at Frontier Park was a flurry of fun activity on Tuesday morning. Children could pick up a reading folder and Dig Into Reading bag. Some kids played chess. Others participated in relay games. There were temporary tattoos and a banner coloring table. Mahaffie Farmstead provided some old-timey activities. DJ the Balloonman made some pretty spectacular balloon creations for kids. Macaroni Kid provided information and handouts. Foresters was there making IDs for kids. The city of Olathe brought a real life digging machine to promote Hope Walk & Touch-a-Truck on June 8. Kids could get creative with sidewalk chalk or get their picture taken in our special cutout. Olathe Public Library/F.R.E.D. yard signs and window clings were distributed. The Olathe Noon Optimists provided water for the thirsty crowd. Teens and adults also had the opportunity to find out about their respective summer reading programs. There was just more fun than you could shake a stick at.
If you missed the Kick-Off, you can still pick up a summer reading folder anytime at either Olathe library. The summer is just beginning, and we have many other fun activities planned.
