Indian Creek Mural

The next time you are in the Indian Creek Library's storytime/program room, you will notice something new — a mural on the walls.  Mr. Gregg from the Downtown Library's Children's Department painted this over the weekend.  We hope it will make the space a little more special for the children (and others) attending storytimes and programs in this room.

Stuffed Animal Sleepover

A group of wild and furry creatures had a fun time at the Stuffed Animal Sleepover at the Indian Creek Library on March 12.  Watch the video below to get a peek at all their shenanigans.

Olathe School District Art Display

The Olathe Downtown Library is pleased to once again be hosting the annual display of art by elementary students in the Olathe School District.  The walls of the Children's Department are adorned with paintings, drawings, prints, collages, and more by these young artists.  Three dimensional works can be found in our glass display case.  It's always fun to see the work produced by creative students right here in our own community.  Click on the images below to get a closer preview.

Next time you are in the Downtown Library, take some time to admire the display and support the arts in our schools.  But don't wait too long!  The artwork is scheduled to come down on March 23.

Perfect Pairs

February is the perfect time for Perfect Pairs!  Perfect Pairs are book bundles matching up one fiction book with one nonfiction book.  For instance, you could read the hilarious picture book Click, Clack, Moo: Cows That Type and then read about some real cows on a farm in Cows Moo!  You could read the beginning chapter book Ricky Ricotta's Giant Robot and then learn about some real robots in the National Geographic Kids' book Robots.  This is a great way to introduce kids to books and genres they might not discover on their own.  The Perfect Pairs display will be up at the Downtown Library throughout the entire month of February.  Stop by and browse the selection.  We are constantly replenishing the display with new book pairs, so you never know what you might find.

Another great way to combine fiction and nonfiction is with Bookflix.  Bookflix is an online resource available through the library that pairs videos of classic picture books with nonfiction ebooks.  Watch the story!  Read the book!  It can all be viewed online anytime, and it's FREE!  You can always find a link to Bookflix on our Good Books page.  Check it out!
