Yes, that's right! You can get a FREE book when you return your summer reading folder and show us what you read over the summer. Be sure to return your reading folder to either Olathe library by August 12 to select your free book! Remember, you must bring your folder with you. Please fill out the tab with your name, school and grade, but leave it attached until we see your folder. And be sure you have logged your reading time and/or book titles inside. You'd be surprised how many people have returned folders with absolutely nothing marked inside. Please take the time to fill it out so we can see what you've read, and we always love to hear about your favorite books of the summer. And if you need any of the missing stickers on the back of your folder, we can fix you right up.
Congratulations on all the great reading you did this summer! Now it's time to get your reward and receive your free book simply by bringing back your reading folder.
Thanks to everyone who entered our Summer Bookmark Contest this year! There are always so many great entries, it's hard to choose just one winner from each grade. But the judges faced the challenge and came up with five winning designs. Congratulations to each of these creative young artists!
Printed copies of the bookmarks are now available at the Children's Desks at both Olathe libraries. Next time you are in the library, pick up one of these unique bookmarks.
Next Wednesday, July 29, is our Be a Hero in Your Community! kids' program at the Indian Creek Library. As part of that program we are now accepting donations for KidsTLC, a local program that helps kids in crisis. CLICK HERE to see a list of desired items. There are donation bins located in the Children's Departments at both Olathe libraries (not to be confused with the Back to School Supplies donation bins). You may also bring donations the day of the program. Thanks for your help!
Mad Science of Kansas City helped kids explore the "Science Behind Superheroes" at our final big program of the summer at Indian Creek Community Church. Catalyst Courtney was our scientific guide who got everyone in on the fun.
But summer isn't over yet! We still have a couple of other library programs left before summer winds up:
BE A HERO IN YOUR COMMUNITY

There has been a lot of superhero activity at the Olathe Public Libraries this week. Preschoolers brought their favorite stuffed animals to the Downtown Library and turned them into superheroes at our Super Buddies program. Elementary-aged kids turned themselves into superheroes at our Superhero Academy program.
If you missed out on all the fun, don't fret. Next week 1st - 5th graders can play Superpowered Bingo on July 14 and 16. Registration is required. The Super Buddies program will be repeated for preschoolers at the Indian Creek Library on July 20 from 10:30 - 11:30 a.m. No registration required.
The Indian Creek Library was abuzz with creativity on Wednesday evening at the Modern Pop Art Experience program with New York artist Michael Albert. Children and their parents listened attentively as Michael talked about his collage art and inspirations and showed many examples of his work. This got the creative juices flowing. Then it was time for everybody to makes some original collage art of their own using recycled materials. Michael also presented personally autographed posters, postcards and bookmarks to everyone in attendance. What a fun night! Thanks to everyone who attended and to Michael Albert for a great program. Click the photos below for a closer look.
Monday, June 29 is the last day to enter our Summer Bookmark Contest. If you haven't turned in your entry yet, you have less than a week left. You may pick up an entry form with all the rules at either Olathe library, or you may click here to download a copy. Turn in your completed entry at the Children's Desk at either Olathe library. The winners will be announced on July 13. The winning bookmark designs will be printed and distributed at both Olathe libraries beginning July 27.
