Fall Storytimes

The Olathe Public LIbrary offers storytimes for a variety of age groups throughout the week at both libraries.  We encourage you to determine which storytime session is most appropriate for your child and family.  No registration is required, but space may be limited.  For some storytimes, tickets will be handed out 15 minutes before the program begins.  Click the links below for more information.

Come to Stagecoach Park for a free 30 minute preschool stortyime.  The Olathe Public Library and the Olathe Community Center present a morning of stories, songs, and play.  In case of bad weather, the storytime will be held inside the community center (1205 E. Kansas City Road).  No registration required for the storytime.  For a small fee you can stay for a special Me & Mini Me Swim.  For more informaton please call the Olathe Community Center at

PAJAMA STORYTIME - For preschoolers & their families

7:00 p.m. @ Indian Creek

Put on your pajamas, grab your blanket and a stuffed friend, and head to the library for bedtime stories.  No registration required.  Storytime will last about 30 minutes.

SUMMER READING LOGS - For 5th grade & younger

Beginning Monday, May 22 and throughout the summer
@ both Olathe libraries

Kids going into 5th grade and younger are encouraged to pick up a summer reading log at the Downtown Library or Indian Creek Library beginning Monday, May 22 or anytime thereafter.  Use the log to record all of your summer reading. Bring your reading log back between July 31 - August 18 and receive a free paperback book.  Reading logs will be distributed throughout the summer at both Olathe libraries and will also be available at our Summer Reading Kick-Off on May 30 at Frontier Park.

PARK, PICNIC, AND PARTIAL ECLIPSE WITH THE OLATHE PUBLIC LIBRARY - For all ages

Monday, August 21
11:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. @ Future Home of Indian Creek Library  (135th & Brougham)

Pack a picnic from home, grab your lawn chairs, and head to the future home of the Indian Creek Library at 135th and Brougham to join us in viewing an astronomical event — the partial (99.47%) solar eclipse!  Participate in eclipse activities, learn a little bit about your future library, and see the Moon cover the majority of the Sun at 1:08 p.m.  The first 100 attendees are guaranteed to receive a free pair of eclipse viewing glasses.  Bottled water and frozen treats will be provided.  In case of inclement weather, a live stream of the total eclipse will be held at the Indian Creek Library.  No registration.  Come and go as you please.

FAMILY CHESS NIGHT - For all ages

Come play chess with a worthy opponent at our Family Chess Nights.  Boards and equipment will be provided.  All ages and playing levels welcome, but kindergartners and younger must be accompanied by an adult.  No registration. Come and go as you please.

MUSIC WITH MAR. - For ages 5 & younger with adult

1,000 BOOKS BEFORE KINDERGARTEN
